The dot SE country-code domain name extension was set up in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was really restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were booked. Individuals were permitted to purchase no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a must, i.e. only Swedish individuals, firms and organizations were able to acquire a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, as a consequence, the number of dot SE domains has been rising each year.

At present, anyone can obtain a dot SE domain name, which gives you the opportunity to contact the Swedish web community even if you do not have a local presence. We are among the registrar companies that offer such domains, given that they cannot be obtained directly from the Registry organization. We can also help you with the registration process because the Registry asks for certain documents such as an ID for persons or a registration certificate for businesses. The .SE country-specific top-level domain is also amongst the extensions that can be used for the so-called “domain hacks”, i.e. using a domain with a specific TLD to represent a word.
